Encaustic medium is an essential component to encaustic painting. Our medium is composed of 100% USP beeswax and damar resin. Medium can be used to create transparency and extend colors, as well as for mixed media and sculptural applications. 

Medium can be used to extend the colours and to create transparencies.

It is important when extending the colours to use the encaustic medium rather than plain beeswax. There are two reasons for this:

1) It maintains the hardness of the paint.

2) Encaustic made only with beeswax may develop a bloom during temperature changes.  The damar resin helps to prevent this blooming.
